Abuja — Tension heightened within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday 18th November 2025 as two opposing factions of the party convened separate meetings inside the PDP National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja. The development comes barely days after the party’s national convention, which left lingering divisions among top stakeholders.
According to sources at the Secretariat, both factions arrived at Wadata House around the same time and immediately proceeded to occupy different halls within the complex for their separate strategy sessions. Party officials and security personnel were seen making efforts to maintain order as supporters of the rival groups gathered around the building.
The parallel meetings, insiders say, reflect deepening disagreements over decisions taken at the just-concluded convention, particularly concerning recent disciplinary actions, leadership positions, and the future direction of the opposition party.
While one faction is reportedly aligned with the National Working Committee (NWC), the other is made up of stakeholders who have openly rejected some of the convention outcomes. The presence of both groups at the Secretariat created an atmosphere of uncertainty, with party members expressing concern over the potential impact on PDP’s unity and public image.
As at press time, no official statement had been released by the PDP leadership. However, sources indicate that efforts are underway to reconcile the factions and prevent the crisis from escalating further.
The Adamawa chapter of the party, known for its strong internal structures, is watching developments closely, with many expressing worry that the Abuja tensions could spill over into state-level politics.
