Toungo, Adamawa State – Concerned residents of Toungo Local Government Area have raised an alarm over the ongoing sale of indigene certificates to non-residents amid the current online recruitment exercise into the Adamawa State civil service.
Reports reaching Adamawa Post indicate that some individuals from other LGAs such as Hong, Michika, and Numan are allegedly purchasing Toungo indigene certificates for as low as N5,000 in a bid to secure employment slots meant for genuine Toungo indigenes.
One resident who spoke to our correspondent expressed deep concern: “We should always advise our secretaries or any other persons issuing Toungo indigene certificates to handle them with due respect. Some non-indigenes are ready to fill our vacancies. Many are now falsely claiming to be from Toungo just to take advantage of our quota.”
Sources suggest that this fraudulent practice is thriving because many recruitment quotas in some local governments are not fully utilized, prompting applicants to seek localities with perceived vacancy gaps, like Toungo.
Community leaders are calling for stricter oversight and a verification mechanism to ensure that only genuine indigenes benefit from the recruitment exercise. They are also urging the Adamawa State Government and relevant authorities to investigate the matter and take necessary action to protect the rights and opportunities of authentic residents of Toungo LGA.
